New Year, New You?

Candidate

Let's Make 2026 Your Career Year

It's that time of year again – when we're all suddenly convinced that this is the year we'll get our lives sorted. We set our goals for the year ahead, purchase a gym membership, start meal prepping like our lives depend on it, and we've sworn off scrolling social media before bed (yeah, right).

But what about your career resolutions? We often spend more time at work than we do at the gym (let's be honest), so shouldn't your professional goals get at least some of that New Year energy?

If you're describing your job as "it's fine" more often than you're saying "I love it," that's your sign. 2026 could be the year you find a role that actually excites you.

That role you think you're "not quite ready for"? Apply anyway. That pay rise you've been too nervous to ask for? Ask. Practise a bit of tino rangatiratanga – back yourself and your abilities. The worst they can say is no, and you're exactly where you are now.

Life's too short to work with energy vampires. Seek out workplaces that value genuine connection and relationships. A team that lifts you up, celebrates wins, and has your back makes all the difference.

Invest in yourself. Whether it's that qualification you've been eyeing, a workshop that interests you, or simply asking for more challenging projects. Commit to growing your skills in 2026. Future you is taking notes.

Still thinking about that career change? That shift to a new industry? That move back home to the regions? Stop thinking, start doing. 2026 won't plan itself.
Here at Talent ID, we know New Year's resolutions can feel a bit naff. But if you're genuinely ready to make 2026 the year your career gets the attention it deserves, we're here for it. Let's turn those resolutions into reality.
